Join us for an incredible conversation with Lt. Col. Bill Kemp, a Vietnam War veteran, helicopter pilot, and lifelong aviator with a career spanning over five decades. Drafted into the Army at just 18 years old, he quickly rose through the ranks, completing Officer Candidate School and serving as an infantry officer in the 25th Infantry Division during his first deployment to Vietnam.

Following his time on the ground, Lt. Col. Kemp transitioned to Army aviation, completing flight school before returning to Vietnam in 1970-71 as the Executive Officer and Commander of the 61st Assault Helicopter Company. His firsthand experiences flying combat missions over Vietnam offer a rare and gripping perspective on helicopter warfare.

After his military service, he pursued a Master’s in Aerospace Administration, launching a long and successful career as a corporate pilot based in Birmingham—a role he has held since 1977.

In this interview, we dive into his journey from the jungles of Vietnam to the skies of corporate aviation, the evolution of military aviation, and the lessons he’s learned from a lifetime in the cockpit.
